About Us

Climate and Ukraine solidarity activists supporting Svitlana Romanko at the New York Climate March on September 17, 2023.

The Ukraine Solidarity Network was initiated at the Socialism 2022 conference in Chicago, September 4, 2022 at a meeting on Ukraine solidarity following a talk by the Ukrainian author and activist Yuliya Yurchenko on “Ukraine, Self-Determination, and Imperialist War.” The meeting agreed to form a Ukraine Solidarity Network in the United States to mobilize support for Ukraine from unions, communities, and individuals from diverse backgrounds to build moral, political, and material support for the people of Ukraine in their resistance to Russia’s invasion and their struggle for an independent, egalitarian, and democratic country. The meeting agreed to conduct its activities in consultation with Ukrainian progressives and anti-war Russians.

The initial organizers began meeting biweekly online to develop a Mission Statement and plans for solidarity activities. The network went public with its Mission Statement in January 2023. Over 300 people have joined the network by signing the Mission Statement.

The network continues to meet online biweekly and exchange information and views on its email listserv. The network produces online webinars featuring Ukrainian and anti-war Russian voices and issues statements in solidarity with Ukraine, including statements that support the national liberation struggles of both the Ukrainian and Palestinian peoples.

The Ukraine Solidarity Network is committed to a consistent internationalism that opposes imperialism and authoritarianism by any state and supports the freedom movements of working and oppressed people everywhere.
