This year, the Ukraine Solidarity Network (US) and Be Like We Arei, the Ukrainian nurses and healthcare workers association, are again partnering to meet some of Ukraine’s needs for solidarity and aid.
Our new project is to provide the funding for the initial requirements of a rehabilitation center for children and adult victims of Russia’s war against Ukraine which Be Like We Are is now preparing to launch. Click to read more.
According to Be Like We Are, “In Ukraine, the issue of population rehabilitation and socialization of children and adults with special needs in society is extremely pressing. The goal of our project will be not only to improve physical and mental health, but also to teach and reinforce in a person and their family the value and importance of every life as an individual — regardless of your physical or psychological condition, regardless of how old you are, you are important.”
The number of people requiring rehabilitation is rapidly growing due to the war. The need for rehabilitation services has skyrocketed, while the services available may have actually decreased, and those that are available only provide limited access, especially for children with disabilities.
The project envisions creation of a modern rehabilitation center for children and adults that will provide comprehensive assistance to people with physical, neurological, psycho-emotional, and post-traumatic health conditions.
The center’s primary goals will be to restore physical functions, improve quality of life, and facilitate social adaptation of patients through the use of modern physical, psychological, and social rehabilitation methods.
Special attention will be given to children with developmental disorders, people recovering from injuries and surgery, post-stroke patients, military personnel and civilians affected by the war, and people with chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
The project envisions phased development of the center, starting with a small rehabilitation office and gradually expanding into a multifunctional center.
Successful establishment of this center will increase the accessibility of rehabilitation services, ensure early intervention for children, help people after injuries return to a full life, support families caring for people with disabilities, and promote social integration of patients.
Our initial goal is to raise $57,000.
The center’s sponsor is Be Like We Are, and its director will be Oksana Slobodyna a registered nurse who is one of the leaders of Be Like We Are. She will work with an advisory and oversight committee consisting of people drawn from Ukraine’s independent unions. The center’s initial staff will consist of Be Like We Are members working as volunteers or as paid professionals. As the program grows, staff will grow accordingly.
