Solidarity with the Peoples of Iran and Ukraine!
April 26, 2026
THE UKRAINE SOLIDARITY NETWORK (U.S.) condemns the criminal imperialist war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. The partial and shaky ceasefire, announced on April 9 hours after Trump’s threat to destroy Iran’s “whole civilization” is subject to cancellation at any moment, with terrifying consequences for the world.
Our solidarity is with the people of Iran, whose lives and country are being destroyed by the U.S.-Israeli war – not with the authoritarian, murderous Iranian regime which has been at war with its own population for many years and massacred thousands or tens of thousands in 2026 alone, is executing political dissidents and prisoners, and shares responsibility for the conflicts devastating the region.
Trump and Israeli prime minister Netanyahu’s war has nothing to do with “liberating” the Iranian people from tyranny. The United States aims at turning the Middle East into a fully authoritarian-ruled entity under its own domination.
At the same time, Israel has launched a war of annexation and mass population removal in southern Lebanon and terror bombing of population centers including Beirut, with horrific civilian carnage, that threatens Lebanon’s very survival.
Netanyahu’s goals include the completion of Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and military-settler ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, pursuit of permanent war in order to suspend his own prosecution for corruption, and blowing apart the ceasefire agreement that was supposed to include Lebanon as well as Iran.
As supporters of Ukraine’s struggle for survival, we point to the treachery of the Trump administration which pours weapons into Israel’s war on the Palestinians and threatens European nations that refused to join the war on Iran, while virtually starving Ukraine of the arms and missile defenses that the country needs to hold back Russia’s full-scale annexationist invasion. Furthermore, the Trump administration has started its latest war with Iran with the claim that it is protecting the people of the U.S. but it ignores the fact that its ally Russia is supplying targeting data to Iran in order to attack American military bases and Gulf State oil refineries.
Trump’s intention has never been clearer: to cut a deal with Russian president-for-life Vladimir Putin that sacrifices Ukraine’s sovereignty in exchange for U.S. domination of the western hemisphere. Ukraine and its people, however, have no intention of surrendering to Russia’s demands despite the appalling suffering inflicted on them.
That suffering has been compounded by the Iranian regime’s support of Putin’s invasion. Throughout the war in Ukraine, Tehran has supplied drones, missiles and technical knowledge to the Russian military for the purpose of destroying Ukrainian infrastructure.
These reactionary alliances make unmistakably clear what should already be obvious: Consistent anti-imperialism demands unconditional opposition alike to the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, genocide in Palestine and invasion of Lebanon, AND to Russia’s imperialist invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s deals to supply Gulf Cooperation Council countries with interceptor drones against Iranian retaliatory attacks compromise some of Ukraine’s global popular support. Nonetheless, Trump’s contemptuous rejection of Ukrainian president Zelensky’s offer of helping in a defensive capacity demonstrates, once again, that Ukraine is not a “proxy” of U.S. imperialism in pursuing its own course in its fight for survival.
We in the Ukraine Solidarity Network (U.S.) are continuing our campaign for solidarity and vital material support to Ukraine, especially its independent unions and nurses’ association.
Despite Trump’s boastful claims, the war against Iran has become a fiasco for U.S. imperialism and a bloody catastrophe for the peoples of the region. Concerning Russia, claims borrowed from Russian state propaganda by some western “realist” commentators, including some on the left, that Russia’s conquest of Ukraine was ultimately inevitable are now clearly revealed to be false.
It is the responsibility of progressives and principled socialists to take a clear stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their struggle against the Russian imperialist invasion, and with the Iranian people against U.S./Israeli invasion and their own criminal authoritarian regime.
In the U.S., the growing protest movement against MAGA has revealed the need for a powerful, democratically-organized, national coalition to unite the struggles against the war, against ICE murders, detentions and deportations of immigrants, and in defense of our democratic rights. We urge everyone to make May Day a powerful expression of popular anger against Trump’s war as well as his regime’s brutal assault on basic rights at home!
